On the 22nd Oct 1986 I was trotting bread from my Francis Francis AC punt on the tidal Thames by Teddington Lock. I was with Phil Thompson when I hooked a hybrid but this was not your normal roach/bream hybrid so we placed it in the well for the club to look at. The ray count and general features were not that of a roach/bream hybrid so we took photos and a few scales. These were taken by Jeff Merral the club secretary to Alwyne Wheeler at the Natural History Museum who told him it was a rudd/bream hybrid. Although the fish was weighed in at only 1 lb 14 oz it does indicate that there must be more rudd in the river than generally believed to get a hybrid. Well certainly food for thought.
